Jr Latin Dance Performance Assessment
Purpose-Built for Competitive Dancers in Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Samba & Paso Doble
What We Offer
The Latin Dance Performance Assessment is a specialized movement screen and physical fitness evaluation designed to uncover the root causes of inefficiency, restriction, or performance plateaus in Latin dancers. The assessment is divided into three key components: 1. Dance Movement Screen (DMS) Evaluates fundamental physical patterns (e.g., postural alignment, hip rotation, balance, thoracic mobility) essential for dynamic Latin dance technique. Tests are scored for both quality and compensation. 2. Physical Performance Testing Includes objective measures of core strength, lower body power, flexibility, endurance, and back stability. These tests reflect the athletic demands of each Latin style and help tailor strength and conditioning strategies. 3. Dance-Specific Skill Screening Assesses dancer-specific movement proficiency, including weight transfer, isolation control, rhythmic timing, and expressive coordination—elements critical to style accuracy and scoring in competitive Latin dance. Why It Matters This assessment helps: - Identify underlying movement inefficiencies or asymmetries - Reduce injury risk by addressing physical limitations before they become problems - Tailor corrective exercise programs based on individual screening results - Enhance overall performance in competition and training Musicality & Expression Screening - A dancer's ability to interpret, express, and embody music through movement. - This portion of the assessment evaluates how well the dancer connects movement to rhythm, timing, and phrasing, as well as their ability to express character and dynamics specific to each Latin dance style. Why It Matters: In competitive Latin dance, technical execution must be matched with musical interpretation. Judges evaluate not just whether a dancer is on time—but how creatively and consistently they embody the music’s structure, accents, and emotions. Dancers who lack musicality may appear robotic, off-rhythm, or disconnected from the partnership.
